Getting Started

RecipesByScott is a shared recipe box and meal planner for a household or team — your kitchen. Everyone in your kitchen works from the same collection of recipes, plans meals together, and turns those plans into a consolidated shopping list.

There are four things to know about:

  • Recipes — your collection. Add them by hand, import them from a website, or snap a photo of a recipe card. Organize with categories, mark favorites, and search.
  • Meal planning — put recipes on a calendar by date and meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, snack), and record who's eating.
  • Shopping lists — generate a single, de-duplicated list from the recipes or meals you've chosen, then check items off as you shop.
  • Dietary needs — describe the diets and preferences of the people you cook for so recipe suggestions respect allergies, avoided ingredients, and protocols.

Do you need an account?

Some of RecipesByScott is open to everyone — no sign-in required. Anyone can browse the public recipe collection, search it, and even submit a recipe of their own. See Without an account for what's available to visitors.

Everything else — your kitchen's private collection, meal planning, shopping lists, favorites, and dietary profiles — needs an account, because that content is private to your kitchen.

Your kitchen

When you sign in, everything lives inside a kitchen — the shared workspace your household or team belongs to. Recipes, meal plans, and shopping lists are visible to everyone in that kitchen. People are added as members, and some members are also tracked as household members for meal servings and nutrition.
